Gen Con Week: Anticipation

Today, I'm going to talk about things I'm looking forward to at Gen Con this year. It is only in about the last week that I've actually managed to get excited about the convention, but it's finally here and I'm glad. So, let's get to the awesome, shall we?

Running Games

Of course, Gen Con is the Best Four Days in Gaming, so I'm going to be doing a lot of that. I'm running four slots over the course of the convention.

I'm running three sessions of Wardens of Ouon, the Fate Accelerated Edition game I've talked about in previous posts. My sessions are Friday at 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm at the JW Marriott room 206 and Saturday at 10:00 am in room 205. This should be a really fun game. Whenever I've run Wardens of Ouon in the past, it's gone very well. All of these slots are currently sold out, but if you are very interested, stop by with generics.

I am also running one slot of Owl Hoot Trail for Pelgrane Press at 3:00 pm on Saturday in the JW Marriott room 202. My adventure is called The Treasure of Tierra del Sol, and it was a real hoot when I ran it before. (Get it? Hoot? Damn, I'm clever.)

Playing Games

I'm going to end up playing at least three sessions of +Kevin Kulp's upcoming +TimeWatch RPG, including games run by Kevin and +John Adamus. I can't wait to see what kind of time travel shenanigans I can get up to while protecting history as we know it.

I decided fairly last-minute to sign up for a Magic: the Gathering sealed deck tournament called Everybody Wins - Chaos Warped! Every round, they're supposed to have a new rule in effect that will shake up the games. This should be a lot of fun.

Seeing People

There are a lot of folks that I'm hoping to run into, chat with, buy drinks for, and so on. I'm planning to attend both the IGDN Social and the Diana Jones Awards on Wednesday. I won't be at the Ennies, but I wish everyone luck with those awards.

Swag

I have a limited budget, but I know I'll end up in the exhibit hall and pick up some new shinie s. There are a few things I'm specifically looking for.
  • I've been meaning to pick up a Noteboard for a while.
  • My collection of the Last Unicorn Games line of Star Trek RPG products is nearly complete. However, I have been on the search for Planets of the UFP for years, and I hope I can find a copy.
  • I am interested in looking at some new RPG core books, including the Cortex Plus Firefly game and the 50th Anniversary edition of Doctor Who: Adventures in Time and Space.
  • My wife and I will be heading for the Green Ronin booth to see if they have copies of their limited run third boxed set of Dragon Age.
And I'm sure I'll see things around the hall I didn't even know to look for.

The Journey

As with any big convention, there's going to be things that happen that I couldn't expect that will be truly amazing. Cosplayers. Conversations. Product announcements. Food trucks.

I leave this evening to go to a friend's house. We're going to play some games, stay the night, and then pile into the car in the morning and head for Indy. If you're going, maybe I'll see you there!
